As I never thought that I would ever be writing a blog at this hour of the day, its 6:45 in the morning, I thought let me first wish a Very Very Good Morning to everyone out here ! And yes, I would like to mention also how come I am writing a blog at this hour on a Sunday morning ! No, no.. I haven’t gone crazy enough about blogging to wake up so early on a Sunday morning to start typing. Actually I am sitting in an aircraft right now.
I am traveling to our Big City Mumbai this morning with few of my colleagues for a conference that starts, quite uniquely today afternoon with the Sunday luncheon. Amazing way to start a conference isn’t ? Has to be. For, if you go to sleep at 12 midnight previous night and then have to wake up at a bitterly unearthly hour of 2.45 am to catch a 5.25 am flight, it is futile to expect any output from our still half asleep brains before afternoon. The plan seemed perfect that way. We had boarded timely after a cup of cappuccino each at the lounge and the plane started taxiing at exactly the right time. I planned to take a nap shortly after take-off, to feel relaxed by the time we land and the humdrum begins I slowly started sinking into my world of thoughts and dreams as the plane advanced towards the run-way…… But –
Its already 7:00 am, a hour and a half has elapsed and we are still sitting in the aircraft at the airport. After waiting at the run-way for half an-hour, we heard the Russian captain of the plane make an announcement, clarifying our curiosity about the long wait, that due to low visibility, take-off is not possible and the plane would return to the parking bay!! And immediately started a bee-like buzzing inside the craft ! “Returning to parking bay ? “Hope there’s nothing between the lines ! “We saw no fog while coming to the airport, wherefrom the fog came now then? bla bla bla….
But its true. It is fog only. Nothing else. A white blanket suddenly started spreading itself over mother earth shortly after dawn and was fully spread in thick smoky grey by 5.30 am and slowly changed color to milky white as the sun continued its journey upwards on the other side of the blanket. 7.15 am.
The Captain has made another announcement that visibility is only 50 metres and we’ll have to wait another 45 minutes at least to know the fate of our journey. I hear a number of co-commuters who are frequent fliers comment, as I type in this blog, that this kind of incident is rare in Kolkata. Must be. We rarely meet with a proper winter here, leave alone fog.., although this year winters were really enjoyable here with four-five spells of cold wave passing by the city……..
I do not know what time we shall be actually starting our journey actually…… Personally I have experienced that whenever fog starts after dawn, it normally do not lift completely before 10 am, although visibility improves to some extent around 9 o’clock. Lets wait for the captain’s next announcement. Till then, hope to munch on some snack that the cabin crew is readying to serve and get some live update on my own of the weather for I hear that the doors of the craft also has been opened up to let in fresh air because the engine and air conditioner has been switched off……..
What’s your take on it ? Do let me know… I see that I've written long enough, but I am not in a position to put in the effort to edit it here no. People are moving along the aisle towards lavatory, towards the dorr to relax & freshen themselves up in the best possible way they can !!! Have a good day ! Cheers !!
